Comprised of painting, bronze sculpture, and 90 copies of a book displayed as sculpture. In QUILT #5, an Abu Dhabi architectural façade becomes a pattern for a quilt; that pattern is incorporated into paintings; the softness of fabric is translated into bronze where the edges of the bronze curl, pointing to its history as a soft mold made of wax; the curled bronze edges look like book pages; the stacks of books call to mind buildings with their “stories”; the text inside the book is culled quickly, patchwork-style, from years of notebooks; the book has no outside visible stamp of authorship and publishing house which returns us back to the quilt’s collaborative making traditions. Exhibited at The Project Space NYUAD Faculty Show 2019, curated by Awam Amkpa.
