Banner space studies

Banners not quite flags, a line not exactly text. Watercolors on stained paper mimic the sewn lines. The paper buckles and the insides of old book covers are the memory of volume. Seams give the line dimension and the drape may signal a window or body. Embroidered notebook jottings: care extended to the quick thought, slowing down time. Made of material from a mother’s archive of quilting fabrics, the large works spawn satellites or moons: smaller banners from scraps hang on wooden rods with color at the tips like small exclamation points. 2019-present, an ongoing project.
